Relationships have their hiccups. Sometimes one or both partners say or do something that can lead to a lot of hurt or bitterness while forgiveness is the last thing on our mind. However, what if we had a chance to rebuild our relationship.

Often we try to go back and talk about what had happened. That can sometimes be disastrous. We are simply opening up a can of worms. What if instead we look at ” the right here right now” moment and try to move  forward? Close that door and throw away the key! Let’s not open Pandora’s box. You know what happened when she did?!?!?

Let’s start afresh and talk about a way forward instead. Talking about past hurts simply rubs salt on the wound and brings back the ugly rearing heads of past bitterness and hurt.

I was thinking about Lot and his wife. They lived in a sinful land and God decided to destroy that land and all it’s people. However, God was gracious enough to save Lot and his family. He had only one condition. DON’T LOOK BACK! Lot’s wife started running away with him but decided to look back. Do you know what happened? She turned into a pillar of salt.

The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar. Then the LORD rained…brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven; and he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground. But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

Genesis 19:23‭-‬26 KJV

Isn’t that the mistake we all often make? Try to move forward but keep looking back. We forget the misery of the past and although the future looks hopeful, fruitful and optimistic, we still try to go back and look at our past. What does it accomplish? Like Lot’s wife, we are simply turning into pillars of salt. And when salt touches wounds, it hurts like crazy!!!

In this new chapter of my life with Rachel I have chosen to NOT LOOK BACK. Looking forward and moving ahead is a choice I have made for the future of our relationship and the purpose God has set out for us. Adieu yesterday!

John

Let’s use the wisdom God gave us and let close doors remain closed and walk through the open doors without looking back.

Start afresh. Start a new chapter. We know what we did wrong and what we can do better. We know we are older and wiser. We know what we can do to make it better this time. We also know what is important to us. So instead of dwelling on the negatives , let’s look to the future and be optimistic.

This verse from the Bible is so encouraging. When God is opening a door we need to trust Him and enter. No looking back.
